About

The Jackdaw

The Jackdaw is, by any measure, one of the most significant restaurants in Wales. Listed in the Michelin Guide, awarded three AA Rosettes, featured on Great British Menu 2024, ranked in The Good Food Guide's top listings and rated 4.9 stars by 849 OpenTable diners — the credentials are exceptional for a restaurant in any location, let alone one tucked discreetly on Conwy High Street in a former 1930s cinema building.

Head chef Nick Rudge trained at The Fat Duck before establishing The Jackdaw, and his cooking reflects that background: technically precise, playful in its approach, deeply rooted in Welsh and seasonal ingredients. The Michelin inspector described the tasting menu as having 'a distinctly playful edge, backed up by well-judged flavour combinations' with 'Welsh pride and hyper-seasonality' at its heart. The AA inspector called it 'clever modern dishes and a cool Scandi vibe' — the room has whitewashed walls, sheepskin-covered chairs and an intimate atmosphere that suits the cooking perfectly.

The wine list is organised by how far each wine was produced from Conwy, measured as the jackdaw flies — a charming detail that sets the tone for an evening that is warm and personal rather than formal. The tasting menu changes seasonally and is priced at around £115 per person. A shorter lunch menu, 'The Nest', offers a gentler introduction at around £35 per person.

Located on Conwy High Street, approximately 15 minutes by car from The Rosedene. Booking is essential and should be made well in advance — The Jackdaw is one of the most sought-after reservations in North Wales. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
