A study by heating specialists Stelrad, which trawled TripAdvisor reviews across the UK to find the finest Sunday lunch pubs, placed The Cottage Loaf at number one in the country with a score of 95 out of 100. That is a reasonable signal of what to expect.

Portions are large, the beer selection is excellent — a rotating range of guest cask ales alongside local Conwy Brewery beers — and the atmosphere is warm and buzzing without ever feeling frantic. The garden room opens onto a courtyard that catches the sun on better days. Booking is strongly recommended, particularly for Sunday lunch and weekend evenings, as it fills reliably.
