Dry-slope skiing and snowboarding in an unexpectedly dramatic setting. A fun do-something-different option for families and energetic couples when you want activity without a long drive.
Tucked into the slopes of the Great Orme above Happy Valley, the Llandudno Snowsports Centre is one of those places that surprises people -- a proper dry ski slope, a toboggan run, sno-tubing and an alpine bar, all perched on a headland above the Irish Sea with views over the bay that are hard to beat from anywhere in North Wales.
The centrepiece is the Cresta Toboggan Run -- at 780 metres, the longest toboggan run in Wales. Riders sit in individual carts and control their own speed with a hand brake, following a route of bends and straights down the hillside before looping back to the start. It suits ages four and up, children between four and eight ride with an adult, and it has been going viral on TikTok with good reason -- it is genuinely exhilarating and the setting makes it unlike any other toboggan run in the country.
Alongside the toboggan, the centre has a PermaSnow dry ski slope with lessons and open practice sessions for all levels, sno-tubing, and a nine-hole alpine adventure golf course. The Alpine Bar and Kitchen sits at around 415 feet above sea level with a terrace looking out over Llandudno Bay -- a good spot for a burger and a drink after a run or two down the slope. The centre is open all year, though some activities are weather dependent, so it is worth checking before you head up.
It is reached via Happy Valley Gardens and Alex Munro Way -- follow signs from the town rather than relying on a postcode, as sat navs can lead you astray on the narrow approach road.
