A high-energy venue combining adventure experiences and indoor and outdoor activities — excellent when you want an all-in-one day of fun regardless of weather.
Adventure Parc Snowdonia sits in the Conwy Valley at Dolgarrog, about twenty minutes from Llandudno, on a site with a genuinely remarkable story. When it opened in August 2015 as Surf Snowdonia, it was the first commercial artificial surf lagoon open to the public anywhere in the world -- a 300-metre freshwater pool using first-generation Wavegarden technology to generate rideable waves up to two metres high, filled with rainwater collected from Snowdonia reservoirs and fed through an adjacent hydro-electric power station. It made international headlines and drew surfers from across the UK and beyond.
The original surf lagoon closed in 2023 following mechanical failures with the wave-generating system. The site was acquired in 2025 by the Interesting Hotels Group and reopened in September 2025 as an indoor and outdoor activity centre. Activities include ninja assault courses, high ropes, soft play, caving, a zip wire, climbing wall and bike hire, along with a cafe bar, coffee shop and 36 glamping pods on site. The adjacent Ixora Hotel and Spa provides further accommodation.
It is worth checking the current status of the surf lagoon before visiting if surfing is the primary draw -- the indoor and outdoor activity offering is substantial in its own right and the setting in the Conwy Valley, surrounded by the forests and mountains of Snowdonia, is spectacular. The site is well suited to families and groups looking for a full activity day out in one of the most dramatic landscapes in North Wales.
